About Margaret

Margaret is Scottish and a Dundonian.

Margaret's interest in painting was revived in the 1970's following the departure of her daughter to University in Edinburgh.

She first attended classes in the local school, painting in oils. After a year she decided to move on and attended Joe McIntyre classes in watercolour. These classes proved to be very instructive and exciting and she attended these classes until they stopped. During this time she assisted in the organizing of Exhibitions for members of the class, giving her an introduction into the workings of Exhibitions.

She then joined Broughty Ferry Art Society and soon started going to the weekly classes in watercolour with the help of the experienced artists such as Gordon Joy and other well known local artists. This is a medium she still uses today.

Margaret also joined Monifieth Art Society and attended the weekly meetings using mostly watercolour but starting to try pastels following a demonstration by Jaqui Gardiner, the well known artist. This is another medium she also uses to-day. During this period Margaret had two spells as Secretary of Monifieth Art Society.

Margaret continues working in watercolours and pastels but has recently started attending the Alan Paris Acrylic classes at Angus College, a medium she has found to be versatile and challenging.

She paints mostly Scottish landscapes and seascapes which she finds inspiring and which are of endless variety.

She has exhibited at local Art Society Exhibitions, as well as the Botanic Gardens Dundee, Speyside, Dunkeld, Loch Lomond and other suitable sites. She also exhibits at Charity Exhibitions.

She has also completed some commissions and her paintings can be found in England, Germany and the U.S.A. as well as her native Scotland.
